Layover at Incheon Airport? K-Stopover Gives Transit Passengers $100 Toward a Hotel (Oct–Dec 2026)

If your flight connects through Incheon International Airport (인천국제공항) this fall, you can now get paid, in a sense, to stay a night. From October through December 2026, transit passengers who book a K-Stopover (K-스톱오버) travel package in Incheon get $100 per person toward their stay. On top of that, the airport is handing out a WOWPASS card worth 10,000 won that works for buses and the subway.

That turns a long, dull layover into a short trip to Korea. The catch is that you have to book through the official program and prove you really are in transit. Here is how it works, in plain terms.

At a Glance

  • Who: passengers connecting through Incheon Airport (a "transit" or "stopover" trip).
  • What: $100 per person toward a lodging-linked Incheon tour package, plus a WOWPASS card worth 10,000 won.
  • When: October to December 2026. The airport's own release says it runs to December 31.
  • How: choose one of 6 courses on k-stopover.com and upload proof of your connecting ticket.
  • Style: self-guided. No group bus, no fixed schedule.

What is a stopover, and why is Incheon paying for yours?

A stopover means you break up a long journey by staying in the connecting city for a while, instead of waiting at the gate. Think of a trip from Los Angeles to Bangkok via Seoul: rather than a few hours in the terminal, you leave the airport, sleep in a real bed, and see something new before flying on.

Why would a city pay for that? Simple: more and more people are passing through Incheon without ever leaving. According to the announcements, Incheon handled 4,244,992 transfer passengers in the first half of 2026, up 18.1% from a year earlier. That growth outpaced international traffic overall. Incheon City, the Incheon Tourism Organization (인천관광공사) and Incheon International Airport Corporation (인천국제공항공사) want some of those travelers to spend a night, a meal and a bus fare in the city.

For you, that means a cheaper night and a reason to step outside.

The money: who pays what

The $100 is not a single gift from one office. It is split down the middle:

ItemValueWho covers it
Lodging support$50Incheon City and Incheon Tourism Organization
Lodging support$50Incheon International Airport Corporation
Total per person$100Applied to your K-Stopover package
WOWPASS transportation card10,000 won in valueIncheon International Airport Corporation

One detail worth noticing: the city's announcement describes the $100 as lodging support, while the airport's release calls it a $100 discount on an Incheon transit tour course. In practice they are describing the same benefit from two angles. The package includes the hotel, and the $100 comes off it. How exactly it shows up on your bill (a lower price at checkout, or something else) is not spelled out in the releases, so check the booking page before you pay.

WOWPASS, by the way, is a prepaid card made for foreign visitors. You can tap it on public transit like a local transit card, and the airport says it also works as a payment card.

Where you can stay

The packages are linked to these properties, as listed in the official announcements:

The releases do not say which hotel belongs to which of the 6 courses, or what each course includes beyond the stay. That is the first thing to look at on the booking site.

Which area suits which traveler?

This is general geography, not part of the official program, but it helps you choose:

AreaGood forTrade-off
Yeongjong Island (airport area)Short layovers, early flights, resort-style staysYou see less of the city itself
Harbor area (old Incheon)History, Chinatown (차이나타운), port viewsLonger ride back to the airport

Who is eligible?

The official wording is short: transit passengers at Incheon International Airport who use a K-Stopover tour package. Each person gets the $100, so a couple traveling together would be looking at two lots of support.

Here is what that means in practice. You need a ticket that connects through Incheon to somewhere else, and you must be able to show it. A round trip that simply starts and ends in Seoul is not a transit trip.

What the releases do not say: any minimum or maximum layover length, nationality limits, age rules, or whether both legs must be on the same booking. Those details may be on the K-Stopover site. Do not assume. Read the terms on the course page before you upload anything.

How to book, step by step

  1. Check your ticket. Make sure your itinerary actually connects through Incheon (ICN) within the October–December window, with enough time on the ground for a night in town.
  2. Sort out entry first. Leaving the airport means entering Korea. Check whether you need a visa or a K-ETA (Korea's online travel authorization for visa-free visitors) on the official government sites. The promotion does not handle this for you.
  3. Go to k-stopover.com. This is the official K-Stopover booking site named in the announcements.
  4. Pick one of the 6 Incheon courses. Compare which hotel each one uses and what is included.
  5. Upload proof of your transit ticket. The releases name this as a booking requirement. Your e-ticket or itinerary receipt showing the connection is the obvious document to have ready.
  6. Confirm the price after the $100 support. Screenshot the final amount and the confirmation.
  7. Collect your WOWPASS. The releases confirm the card is given to package users but not where or how. Look for instructions in your confirmation.
  8. Travel on your own. Courses are self-guided, so you set your own pace.

Pre-trip checklist

  • ☐ My connection goes through Incheon (ICN) between October and December 2026
  • ☐ I have checked visa or K-ETA rules for my passport
  • ☐ I have a PDF or screenshot of my full itinerary showing the connection
  • ☐ I have read the course terms on k-stopover.com (layover length, what is included, cancellation)
  • ☐ I know which hotel my course uses and how far it is from the airport
  • ☐ My checked bags: I know whether they are checked through or I need to collect them (ask your airline)
  • ☐ I have saved the booking confirmation offline
  • ☐ I know how I will pick up my WOWPASS
  • ☐ I have planned to be back at the airport with plenty of time before my onward flight

Making the most of a self-guided night

"Self-guided" just means nobody hands you a schedule. That is great if you like to wander, and a bit risky if you underestimate distances.

A good rule: match your plans to your hotel. If you stay on Yeongjong Island, keep things close and easy. If your course puts you in Songdo or near the old harbor, you can see more of city life, such as an evening walk or a meal in Incheon Chinatown (인천 차이나타운), the birthplace of Korea's favorite black-bean noodles, jjajangmyeon (짜장면). Just allow for the trip back.

Your WOWPASS covers part of the fares. Since it is preloaded with 10,000 won, think of it as a head start, not a full transport budget. You can top it up if you need more.

Cautions before you book

  • It is a package deal, not cash. The $100 goes toward a K-Stopover course. Booking a random hotel yourself will not qualify.
  • Only the official site counts. The announcements point to the K-Stopover homepage. Be wary of look-alike pages or social media accounts asking for payment details.
  • Terms can change. Promotions like this sometimes end early when budgets run out. Nothing in the releases says so, but nothing rules it out either.
  • Entry rules are your job. No promotion overrides immigration rules.
  • Separate tickets carry risk. If your two flights are on separate bookings, a delay on the first can cost you the second. Build in a buffer.
  • Different offer, different place. The airport has also announced separate transit promotions with Trip.com and airlines from late October. Those are not the same as the K-Stopover hotel support.

Q

Q. Is the $100 per booking or per person?
Per person, according to all of the announcements.

Q. When does it run?
October through December 2026. The airport corporation's release gives December 31 as the end date.

Q. Do I have to join a tour group?
No. Courses are self-guided, with no fixed group schedule.

Q. Can I use it if I am flying into Seoul as my final destination?
The program is for transit passengers, and booking requires proof of a transit ticket. A trip that ends in Korea does not appear to fit.

Q. What is WOWPASS?
A prepaid card for foreign visitors. You can use it on public transport and, according to the airport, for payments. Package users get one worth 10,000 won.

Q. How long does my layover need to be?
The announcements do not say. Check the course terms on k-stopover.com.

Q. Can I choose any hotel in Incheon?
No. The packages are linked to specific properties: Paradise City, Inspire Entertainment Resort, ibis Styles Ambassador Incheon Airport, Best Western Premier Incheon Airport, Harbor Park Hotel and hotels in Songdo.

The bottom line

If you already have a long connection through Incheon this fall, this is worth five minutes on the K-Stopover site. $100 off a night, plus a transit card, makes a layover feel more like a free extra stop. Just read the course terms, sort out your entry paperwork, and leave yourself time to get back for the next flight.
